A Contra Dance for All

  • Camp Frienship 339 8th Street Brooklyn, NY, 11215 United States (map)

Music by: Some Assembly Required Trio

Calling by: Emma Gorin

The Some Assembly Required Trio brings the energy of NYC's best musicians to the Brooklyn Contra stage. Headlined by Matthew Christian's Irish fiddling, you never know who'll show up, from folks fresh of the Broadway or Grand Ol Opry stage to a harmonious cello or a trombone-playing mandolin picker.

Check out our cello player on this version of “One Year Since”!

This week Matthew Christian's signature busker's fiddle sound is joined by Colin Forhan's guitar, just back from Nashville and the Grand Ol'Opry, the driving cello of Brendan Hearn, and jazz club percussion of Jerome Morris.

Together, they'll bring joyous, dynamic interpretations of traditional Appalachian and Irish tunes to help you whirl away the night.

Emma Gorin grew up dancing in New York City and has been calling contras around the city and region since 2013. She loves to call dances that tell a story and emphasize connection and momentum. She has called for dancers young and old, and selects dance programs that highlight various textures and moods and will delight beginners and experienced dancers alike. When she’s not behind the mic or on the contra dance floor, you might find her Morris or sword dancing, or researching infectious disease dynamics.
