We'll see you on April 16th for two hours of challenging contras, followed by a dinner break and 3 more hours of dancing to this amazing talent. Will Mentor's incomparable calling will be joined by the driving tunes of Kingfisher for a fabulous day of dancing!

For folks who have not attended a challenging contras session before, this is a great way to progress from beginner to intermediate dancer!

Will Mentor is perhaps the foremost contra dance caller in the United States. For the last 20 years his clear teaching, upbeat wit, and relaxed stage presence have been delighting new and old dancers alike.

Kingfisher, the eclectic duo of Cecilia Vacanti and Jeff Kaufman, plays both traditional and modern contra dance music, and has been hailed as one of the most versatile up-and-coming dance bands on the road today. Already a mainstay in the Greater Boston area, they've performed to large, enthusiastic crowds on the West Coast, Eastern Seaboard, and throughout the Northeast. Jeff Kaufman, a multi-instrumentalist, anchors the duo from the piano, as well as mandolin and a number of innovative electronic instruments he created himself, providing the duo with bass and drum grooves — all of which gives Cecilia Vacanti the opportunity to wow you with intense fiddling renditions of tunes across the spectrum, surprising even the most seasoned listener with a genre-bending playlist thats is absolutely breathtaking.

Important Dance Information

• Please do not attend if:

  • You have any symptoms that may be related to covid-19 or other viruses

  • You have come in contact with anyone in the 2 weeks prior to the dance who is suspected to have covid-19

• Proof of vaccination is required, including valid ID and vaccine card

  • You can also present your Excelsior Pass or other vaccine card app along with valid ID for entry

  • Please wear your wristband throughout the duration of the dance

• Masks are required while inside the dance

  • You may take sips of water, but please step outside the hall to take snack breaks or remove your mask

• Cost of entry

  • Free for members and volunteers, $12 for students, $15 for non-members

  • Please try to bring cash, as it's faster and easier for us to collect at entry!
