Join us for a very special May Day double dance! We’ll have music from Good Company, calling from Harris Lapiroff, plus a balkan dance lesson to get ready for GoldenFest and a May Pole! Come celebrate the coming of spring with us!
Good Company is a recently formed trio that primarily plays for contra dances around New England. They draw their material from Irish, Scottish, New England, and Quebecois folk traditions, as well as original material heavily influenced by those traditions. The band includes Helen Kuhar on guitar and vocals, Cecily Mills on Cello and vocals, and Rohan Weeden on Fiddle. They bring the playfulness and dance-ability that hallmarks good contra dance music to all of their performances, regardless of venue.
Harris Lapiroff is a caller hailing from Somerville MA. He's worn many hats through many locales in the dance community; he was an organizer of Youth Dance Weekend for 6 years and is currently on the boards of Cambridge MA's local contra dance BIDA and Pinewoods Camp. He strives for an efficient, friendly calling style that gets dancers moving as quickly as possible and then gets out of the way.
