A May Day Double Dance!

  • Camp Friendship 339 8th Street Brooklyn, NY, 11215 United States (map)

Join us for a very special May Day double dance! We’ll have music from Countercurrent and calling from Sunny Lawrence and Qwilleran Duvall

Tickets Available Here!

Countercurrent is a powerhouse acoustic folk duo based in Olympia, Washington, featuring driving guitar, lyrical fiddle, harmony vocals, and foot percussion. Bringing the deep drive of dance music to every performance, their arrangements blend both traditional and modern influences with astounding musicianship and fluency. Countercurrent is a genre-bending experience rooted firmly in the traditional music of the Celtic Isles and America; music that lifts you up and charges fearlessly into the future of folk music.

Sunny has been dancing in her hometown of Brooklyn since 2011 and started calling in 2023 through Brooklyn Contra’s caller training program. She brings a clear, calm, and joyful presence to the mic, always aiming to help newcomers fall in love with contra and to keep growing her beloved dance communities.

Calling since 2019 In their home dance community of Chicago, touring nationally since 2023, Qwill brings an upbeat, playful energy to every dance. With clear, relaxed teaching and an eye for the skill level in the room, they keep dancers engaged — whether with creative choreography, unusual figures, or simply a well-chosen, satisfying dance. Expect a fun, inclusive atmosphere where beginners feel supported, experienced dancers stay intrigued, and everyone leaves smiling.
