Join Brooklyn Contra in the streets at Jalopy Theatre for a barn dance featuring live music from Some Assembly Required with calling by Richard Barns. Sunny's calling will walk new dancers through traditional Appalachian dances, from contras to circle dances, mixers and more, with a quick waltz lesson thrown in for fun, no experience necessary!
The Some Assembly Required Trio brings the energy of NYC's best musicians to the Jalopy stage. Headlined by Cleek Schrey's Irish fiddling, you never know who'll show up, from folks fresh off the Broadway or Grand Ol Opry stage to a harmonious cello or a trombone playing mandolin picker. This week Matthew Christian's signature busker's fiddle sound is joined by Hilary Hawke's big stage banjo, Colin Forhan's traveler's guitar and Brendan Hearn's driving cello. Hilary's dynamic playing has been featured in Broadway's recent Oklahoma revival, while Colin is fresh off of the road with Eileen Iver's national touring company. Together, they'll bring joyus, dynamic, interpretations of traditional Appalachian and Irish tunes to help you whirl away the night.
Dancing 7pm to 9pm at Jalopy Theatre 315 Columbia St, Brooklyn, NY 11231
