Friends! We’ll see you for a barn dance on the Battery Park Esplanade in collaboration with the Battery Park City Authority. We’ll have calling from Alexandra Deis-Lauby and music from the big 5 piece Some Assembly Required band!!!! Dancing kicks off right at 6:30 and we’ll dance through sunset over the Hudson at the Esplanade Plaza, walk in off Liberty Street in lower Manhattan.
The Some Assembly Required band brings the energy of some of NYC's best musicians to the Battery Park stage. This week the Irish fiddle duo of Cleek Shrey and Meghan Mette is underlined by Colin Hearn’s melodious cello and rythm guitar along side the flute and penny whistle Kieran McCarthy and the jazz club percussion of Jerome Morris. Together, they'll bring joyus, dynamic, interpretations of traditional Appalachian and Irish tunes to help you whirl away the night.
A NYC-based folk dancer, caller, teacher, and organizer, Alexandra is a contra dance caller who calls weekends and festivals all over the country. She tours, calling local dances for both contra and English Country Dance. She also calls community, teen, and family dances as well as weddings and parties.
Her clear teaching, smooth voice, and fun dance selection delight dancers coast-to-coast. Alex is excellent with all levels of dancers whether they just walked in the door or have been dancing since before she was born. She has dances for all the folks!
