We’re wrapping up a weekend of dancing with a Contra Dance for All with one of the best caller’s around, Alexandra Deis Lauby, and the incredibly talented duo of Meghan Mette’ fiddle and Brendan Hearn’s guitar and cello!
(and yes, this was originally meant to be a double dance but a booking snafu lead us to cancel the advanced dance, sorryyyyyy folks, see you for our next double dance, our Harvest Ball on on Oct. 19th with Kingfisher!).
Originally from Portland, Maine, Meghan has been immersed in a rich confluence of fiddle and dance traditions within the Irish and American Old-Time genres, studying with the likes of Seamus Connolly, Matt Cranitch, Connie O'Connell, and Rhys Jones. Meghan studied Irish Traditional Music at the University College Cork in Ireland, before attending Oberlin College, where she co-founded bands Sweet Potato Spoon and Miss Rosie. Meghan now resides in Baltimore, Maryland, where she participates in multiple music projects, including The Good Folk, Big Cricket String Band, and the annual "Across the Harbor" performances.
Brendan Hearn is from Maryland where he grew up playing both classical and traditional music on the cello. Following in the footsteps of great folk cellists like Natalie Haas, Rushad Eggleston, Eric Wright, Tristan Clarridge, Mike Block, and so many others, Brendan found his own voice and developed his personal “chop” technique. He has performed with dozens of groups across the United States as a freelance cellist, and specializes in tunes and accompaniment of different folk genres. In 2022, his Old Time project Hemlock and Hickory with fiddle player Dakota Karper was awarded first place in the Neo-Traditional Band competition at the Appalachian String Band Music Festival (Clifftop). He currently lives in Brooklyn, NY, and travels up and down the East Coast (and now the West Coast) for gigs, recording projects, and workshops.
